Pictured above is of SGT James C. Kearney III, the first Iowan killed in the Afghanistan War (November 1st, 2004). This picture was taken the day before he died, while on patrol toward the border town of Shkin, Afghanistan.
I still have questions as to how some things happened, and the purpose behind what occurred. The truth is, I will never know all the answers. One thing I do know is that James died in combat fighting for freedom. He died not only for our freedom, but also for the freedom of people in a ruthlessly oppressed country. I am honored to say I served with him.
Please remember the sacrifice that James and his family made over here, and keep them in your prayers today.
